The 2.55 is an iconic model from the House of Chanel. Created by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in February 1955 (hence the name 2.55), this handbag revolutionized the world of women's fashion with its innovative design and practical concept. Indeed, before its creation, women's handbags were mainly carried by hand. Coco Chanel wanted to free women from this constraint by adding a chain shoulder strap, allowing it to be worn over the shoulder or across the chest. Another distinctive feature of the 2.55 is its “Mademoiselle” latch closure, a rectangular shape. While retaining its original design, the 2.55 is constantly reinventing itself (format, chain, material). The model shown here is in distressed leather for a rock'n'roll, worn effect in a jumbo format, perhaps more practical in size than the much sought-after Medium.
