The iconic Chanel Boy bag was created in 2011 under Karl Lagerfeld and introduced during the Fall/Winter collection. Inspired by the House’s classic rectangular handbags, it brings a bolder, edgier aesthetic—some would even say more rock and punk. With its ribbed, motocross-style edges, chunky chain strap, and gold-tone double CC push-lock closure, it stands out from more traditional designs.
The bag takes its name from Arthur Edward “Boy” Capel, an English aristocrat and Coco Chanel’s first great love. Its design is said to have been inspired by a hunter’s cartridge bag that Coco herself used to wear. Since then, the Boy bag has been continuously reinvented and has quickly become a staple of the House. It can be worn on the shoulder or crossbody.
In 2026, the medium Boy bag retails new at Chanel for CHF 6,610.
Buying it on the second-hand market is therefore a very attractive option.
